6-panel Loading Artist comic. 1: “The world just ended. And I couldn’t be happier!” Blue shirt guy grins at a nuclear blast outside his bunker. 2: “Fuel? Plenty.” He admires his fuel barrels. 3: “Snacks? Stocked.” He opens a soda beside shelves of junk food. 4: “Responsibilities? None.” He relaxes into a beanbag with headphones. 5: “Finally! The perfect gaming session begins now!” 6: Screen says: “Failed to authenticate. Check your Internet connection.”
Black Mirror version of the Twilight Zone classic, “Time Enough At Last.”
“You’re entering a show that is slightly different from previous, very similar shows. What was once a creepy story about a book is now about an e-reader that’s too greasy to hold. And that one phone call from the devil? Now it’s a FaceTime call from the devil. The devil part didn’t change. Prepare to see your unflattering reflection in…The Scary Mirror.”
All this doomsday prep and he couldn’t be bothered to buy games from GOG before the nukes fell? Oh well, deserves it for trusting DRM launchers HA
It’s fine, he’s got the generator inside, he’ll die from carbon monoxide in like an hour.
That’s why as a paranoid I downloaded Wikipedia and have ollama to run locally
You could download all of wikipedia before ai was a thing, what does ollama do for it?
Ollama is separate from Wikipedia database I downloaded. Ollama is just a different thing and something to interact with. There’s very little synergy other than Wikipedia being source for ollama models claim
Like all AI, it’s a search engine.
Piracy always wins
GOG exists. You can literally buy games DRM free online and for the same price as on Steam.
Games aren’t like movies. You can own the games you buy if you’re willing to put in the effort.
I got so many offline installers from gog and it feels so good. I don’t have to worry about a game disappearing on me or getting a patch that ruins mod compatibility years after release. And even if my internet goes down it’s available.
GOG is so freaking awesome I always check there first if its available.
I made my own doomsday gaming stick. A one terabyte HP 911 pro stick filled with all sorts of games that are plug and play, all neatly categorized. I had an idea to start making copies and selling them on dark web markets, but honestly not worth the risk.
Make a torrent
What are some of the highlights on the stick? Are you going you make us wait until the world ends? The suspense is killing me!
I might reevaluate my risk assessment and consider including other media. It’s right in there with weed in terms of both risk and reward, in that you’ll probably have fun/make a lot of people happy but definitely still need other means of support. There’s a guy doing exactly what you’re talking about at pretty much every educational institution for starters, and the risk is essentially being told to stop
Maybe you’re already aware, but even digital storage decays over time, both SSD and HDD. Granted, it’s a decently long time, but worth keeping in mind for an “In case of Apocalypse” media storage device.
Burning a gas generator inside a bomb shelter? At least he won’t have to live with his disappointment for long.
Why not opt for a solar panel and power bank combo?
Might be a cloudy nuclear winter
Supplement it with a wind turbine…
Could be diesel or propane either way wouldn’t have been hard to design a box for it to sit in so that the fumes could still go outside.
After an apocalypse like that it’s unlikely that solar or wind would be very viable it would most likely be nuclear winter so that would stop both as solar is not going to get any sunlight and a windmill is going to require excessive maintenance to stay functional in that.
The better bet would still be battery bank but battery bank with generator that way you’re not just wasting electricity since a generator is a demand-based response but still uses a set amount of fuel no matter what just to run you use the generator to charge up the battery Bank and then use the batteries only turning on the generator when they need to recharge
Maybe that way he’ll die before the back pain from the beanbag chair gets him.
If your beanbag chair is giving you back pain, I don’t think you’re sitting in it right.
Ooh, I like it. It’s a modern version of the Twilight Zone episode Time Enough at Last. Which might be more familiar to modern audiences by its Futurama parody via an episode of “The Scary Door.”
Interestingly, somebody made a short video showing key moments of the two stories side-by-side. Futurama - Scary Door, Twilight Zone
Youre staring at a rectangle, reading a post left by another human being, or perhaps a robot. Some of the text is blue. You find yourself drawn towards it. If your thumb makes contact you might find yourself watching a clip of…The Scary Door.
This is a masterful post. No notes.
Well, one note. Apparently that link triggered a “we detected unusual activity from your computer” page that I had to click through. But honestly, that makes it even funnier.
Twilight Zone spoiler
Well played, Sir/Madam/Honourable Shitposter. Well played.
It turns out it’s man.
That’s why you verify your setup without a network connection before declaring the project complete. Amateurs.
Lots of things will work, until a week or 2 later then it asks for online authentication.
Genny just running in an enclosed space?
Won’t have to worry about no internet for that long then
The gaming session was gonna get real intense for a while
Maybe he’s running an absolutely stupid overbuilt ventilation system
Minecraft hardcore but I have carbon monoxide poisoning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Wow0tjOvxg
Jokes on you my singleplayer games will run fine with no Internet!
*laughs in DRM*
Just because a game is single player doesn’t mean squat these days. If your computer cannot connect to server to authenticate the license at least periodically then you’re fucked.
Unless you pirate or get it from GOG or other DRM-free sources. Steam DRM is at least indefinite so long as you have launched the game at least once though.
I’ve heard that devs can disable steams DRM haven’t looked into it though, safer to just go with GOG when possible. Also why I haven’t gotten slay the spire 2 yet
Also check if the game has DRM before you buy it in GOG.
Haven’t heard anything about that so can’t say. I agree, though— GOG all the way.
Anyone who hoards for a doomsday event would pirate every piece of digital media.
Yeah i wouldn’t know i dont play any games that require login to play singleplayer, if i buy one without realizing on steam it’s an instant refund and uninstall
There is hope: « Stop Killing Games » au Parlement européen | Temps forts de l’audition complète
(Stupide YouTube translates the vidéo title but it is indeed all in English)
Laughing in thousands of retro games
Piracy is a matter of survival.
Carbon monoxide sends its regard. Don‘t run a fuel emergency generator indoors.
Nah it’s a good way to go before you run out of water.
Nothing like a good nap after a gaming session
