I think it might be simpler than that. I think the people who were already invested in energy heard about the energy needs of AI and started investing there to prop up the cost fossil fuel. Then Trump and friends got involved and killed several renewable energy initiatives. I think it’s all about greed, and not much else.

I just don’t think the fascist supporters really need AI as deniability. Even if Trump told them face-to-face that he loves raping children, they’ll make excuses for him, or act like it was just a joke.

Because there’s no way to fake the data that determines a photos age?…. or they just refute any chain of custody with regards to any actual photos. The conservatives would just scream fake or AI regardless of the actual truth and that would be the end of it.

That’s not how plausible deniability works. They create a tool that can make highly realistic graphics and then claim the real photos, when released, are just AI slop.

How can you tell if a photo you see predates generative AI? Anyone can slap a “2009-10-15” in the metadata

That doesn’t matter to the right, as long as they have something they can lie about they will

The emails seem to be real. If the people there are telling the truth, it’s your guess.

Well then it’s pretty credible. The only problem is the judicial system in the USA is so fucked that a convicted felon can have the highest position in their state. And they even stated that they won’t prosecute a president no matter what crime he committed. So, what does it matter? At this point, the guy is convicted of multiple felonies and has committed multiple crimes during his term as president. And no one’s going to do anything about that.

Yeah but if you start baring criminals from political positions then you end up with the opposite problem too. A corrupt official could just have their opponents convicted

Idk if there’s a clean cut solution in terms of black and white text. Maybe in terms of enforcement and intent, but that’s always changing

He was convicted on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records and more importantly, he rallied people for an act of terrorism, namely attacking the parliament.

While I realise it’s more complicated than just a blanket ban for all criminals, in the case of Donald Trump, IMO, it really is that easy.

Edit: He also stole government documents. Another offense added to a list the US judicial system wipes its ass with.

I’m hoping that either he will implode from embarrassment, or his base will. If we’re really lucky, maybe both?

              ~Maybe not. But a boy can dream.~
