Just like the Dems have investigated January 6th? I’m sure the consequences will be devastating for him.

No. Hang him. What more evidence do you need of his immense traitorous harm to America and the working class around the world that would require investigation? You’ll lethally inject one person for egregious crimes against one other person, but you’ll dither and fret over bringing meaningful consequence to set an example when it’s someone who has directly harmed millions worldwide and condemned an entire generation to immeasureable struggle and unprecedented crises. It’s vile and pathetic. At this point investigation is a very clear delay and distract tactic, and we all know why this is the best the good cop half of this corporate capital party has to offer.

Yeup. It should be clear still that this is not a reason not to vote D in midterms though.

And it should be noted how the Trump prosecution case stopped when he became president. So it’s not at all unimportant who wields the power when it comes to these court cases.

Of all things to ‘both sides’ this is stupid. One group is actually following due process, the other is literally ignoring due process and intercepting any attempt to reign in corruption.

And none of that ‘controlled opposition’ patter, due process was moving forward until Trump was re-elected and every bit of opposition was summarily dismantled and dismissed.

              Womp womp, that’s the joke.

due process was moving forward until Trump was re-elected

They collectively dragged their ass for four years. An obscenity.

Not to mention, Harris took a knee in the last election (why is a mystery but I bet it was $$$).

You know they generally don’t advertise for Republican votes in Presidential campaigns, don’t you? Harris did (“he doesn’t have to know how you voted”, unprecedented R outreach). Everybody knows that you need independent votes to win, it’s basic math.

I’ve voted, and you should too. But know the game, don’t fall for the dog-and-pony show, that’s the patter. You are repeating the D party line, and you can’t get more patter than that, friend.

The fact is, one party has an active and stated goal of stripping the US for parts and the people of their rights. The other is headed up by milque toast corpo stooges. I shouldn’t have to write a manifesto detailing the ills and failures of both parties to point out that basic but distinct difference in approaches. Dems are political mercenaries at best, Repubs actively campaign on removing rights.

And I’d love to see the D Party actually run on holding people accountable. Let’s not pretend that is an active campaign goal for the Dems. I’d die to hear basic patter like that from Dem leadership. 99% of the time they run to the middle like you pointed out.

I mean investigations are the first part of due process. I agree the rest needs to follow, but an investigation is the start of things.

We also need to quit electing people who like to scuttle investigations, destroy evidence, and stymie witnesses/victims. That is the bigger hindrance to due process.

investigations are the first part of due process.

That is also the only part that the legislative branch can really do. Based on what is found during investigations, they can recommend charges, but that’s about it. Arrests and charges come from the executive branch. Trial and sentencing come from the judicial branch. This separation of power is a safeguard against king shit, and believe it or not, the king shit we’re seeing in action is still less absolute than it could be if not for some power not yet ceded to the executive.

Because you can’t arrest, charge, and bring to trial people without evidence, which is what the investigation is for.

Sure, they might try but will get ignored like last time and the evidence might vanish, might be some problem so they don’t get power. Either way in two years the propaganda will say that Dems wasted all the time on witch hunts and lawfare and the voters will agree or not show up again and right back to maga. I’d love to be wrong about this, I can handle it lol!

But the contrarian view is that’s all they can do.

Congress has been dysfunctional for decades and the republicans have stood together against any bipartisan work. Even with a majority, there’s not much democrats can pass without a supermajority (or congressional reform).

The huge thing that has been missing has been constitutional checks and balances. I don’t know if they can do that without supermajority but they need to try

Given our dysfunctional Congress and the goal to put the brakes on abuses of power, is there anything they can do?

        Absurd.

The super majority vote is a parliamentary rule and not law. They can skip the super majority with a simple majority vote (as they can with all parliamentary rules).

They skip it all the time… they bypass the “super majority” with regularity. Over 180x the last time I checked.

They could have passed minimum wage increase with a simple majority. Instead, they tied it to a massive budget package.

They never even tried a standalone bill. They performed the bare minimum because it works, people fall for it. It’s an open secret and a bit of a joke, really.

The Democrats can’t bust the Rs on accepting piles of money and gold Krugerrands, come on now they pulled in a billion dollars to lose. If memory serves, they raised more money than Rs in last election.

The Supreme Court has decided that dollars are free speech (no matter how much) and Space X is people (no matter how stupid that is). This is performative at best in my opinion (just like Ds last ‘attempt’ to raise the minimum wage)

OR, Democrats will actually derail the money train and clean the White House! Ha that was a joke

Not that is support musk in this, but it’s legal to spend any amount of money you want for an election. What did they think would happen?

Where are the democrats standing for fixing that?

I believe there are a few superpak rules left where it has to be “independent” rather than coordinated with a party or candidate, so I’d buy an investigation into what party or candidate hired him to destroy government services under the claim that we can’t afford it (in addition to the trillions in tax cuts for the wealthy)

Find out what exactly Trump meant when he said, “Elon knows those voting machines really well,” and then thanked him for giving him Pennsylvania. Those were quite fucking revealing comments, to say the least. Add on all those weird comments from his little meat shield kid, X-10101-cknvalkmcnvoefr, or whatever the fuck his name is. They stole the election, they committed treason, so give them the televised firing squad they so desire.

Things to investigate, what am I missing?:

    1. His brother’s admission that they fraudulently used their student visas to start businesses, and if he didn’t admit it on his naturalization application, then that’s grounds for denaturalization.
    2. Election fraud related to his promises to pay for votes, and other suspicious statements.
    3. Countless privacy, data security and other laws violated at DOGE.
    4. His associations with Jeffrey Epstein.
    5. Use of his controlling power at his companies to benefit himself and defraud investors.
    6. Lies to the NHTSA and consumers about the capabilities and safety claims about Tesla cars.
    7. Illicit preferences and treatment for his companies as corrupt payment for funding the GOP electoral machine.

That’s in 4 minutes off the top of my head. I’m sure there’s more. Hakeem Jeffries, you can have that list for free to start with - or, hey, better yet, let’s get someone else who actually will take some action to lead the House.

I really liked that meme comparing immigrants and asking which is under investigation:

      • the white trillionaire who publicly admitted to immigration fraud decades ago
      • the darker skin congressional candidate who has been a citizen for a longer time, since she was a teenager. Where there are no credible accusations, the paperwork would have been her parents responsibility, and they raided her house on a rubber stamp “intent to terrorize” warrant

I love it. Yeah, Hillary had to deal with a lot of complete nonsense lawfare over that, and it was entirely made-up bullshit over 4 dead Americans. Because the cons knew she was going to run.

The least we could do is have some shitstain like Elon endure 100x that over real stuff. Because what he (and Vought) have willfully done is likely going to (probably has already) kill far, far, far more than just 4 people.
