President Donald Trump said Wednesday that “we shouldn’t even have an election,” as he complained about the political risks his party faces in the 2026 midterms and boasted about his accomplishments.

Trump made the comment in an interview with Reuters while venting about the long-standing reality that the party of a sitting president often loses seats in midterm elections.

I like to think the number nationwide is sizeable but media control and especially social media algorithms make it hard to see. But you could be right and there are only dozens of us.

    Huh.

I wonder where all those Enlightened Centrists ™ and holier-than-thou leftists are at these days? They sure were preening a lot right after Donvict’s second (supposed) election.

They sure seem to be pretty quiet these days…

Germany 1933 (Wikipedia): The election saw Nazi stormtroopers unleash a widespread campaign of violence against the Communist Party (KPD), left-wingers, trade unionists, the Social Democratic Party, and the Centre Party. They were the last multi-party elections in a united Germany until the all-German vote in 1990, though by 1933, the democratic process had ceased to be free or fair.

The GOP using ICE has already unleashed a widespread campaign of violence and IMO they’re well on the way to making sure the democratic process no longer exists in 2026.

The main difference, and really only hope at this point, is ICE appear to be pretty indiscriminate in their application of violence. If it was more targeted I’d be more worried, but at this point it seems their managing to piss off a majority of people.

Do you know where there are no elections, Donny? Inside a jail cell. Where you belong since some time.

You, uh… You do know how absolutely fucked that is right? That you guys don’t have voting in prisons, that you can prevent convicts from voting?

Like, when you’re asking yourself “How did we get to the point where our president is openly flirting with cancelling elections?”, some of that is that you guys accepted as normal levels of anti-democratic behaviour that most democratic nations consider you absolutely insane for endorsing.

In Canada we literally set up polling stations in the prisons. You can be a serial killer doing multiple life sentences, you still get the right to vote. That is a bedrock, fundamental right that no one, especially not the government, ever gets to take away from you.

Maybe if the US treated voting rights in the same way, you might be a little less fucked up right now.

We don’t have rights here in the US, we have privileges. They’ve been revoking a lot of our privileges lately.

Yeah when you explicitly define your freedoms you put a hard limit on freedom. Land of the Free? More like Land of the Enslaved. You should be defining your restrictions so you have infinite freedoms.

It’s even better in Australia - not only do prisoners get to vote, legally they must vote or face a fine for not voting. We have compulsory voting for all eligible and enrolled citizens, bar none. The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) sends representatives to every prison to ensure that the votes are all submitted correctly. This isn’t even in our constitution - we legislated it in 1924 and no political party wants to go near the idea of removing compulsory voting nor taking away the rights of the incarcerated to participate in our democracy.

    Trump. Stop being racist.

It’s called “ERECTION” and you haven’t managed one in decades.

When you did, the pre-teens found it embarrassingly small and 100% unwanted
