A girl said I had nice teeth once around the same time. Never really even thought of my teeth, at all, so it stuck with me. Still got all of ‘em, too! I’m packin’!

Normalize complimenting men. The current ratio is probably 10 to 1. Maybe they would be less miserable and angry then.

I told a guy at Universal Studios that I thought he was cute and he just beamed. Made him so happy. I also like to compliment when guys have nice beards; works every time. Btw I’m a guy.

In terms of compliments you give, what’s the ratio? Be part of the solution.

I compliment my friends all the time. It’s an easy way to support the people you care about.

I’ve been complemented before in passing by someone and not felt the overwhelming urge to immediately engage in a relationship with them. Surely, context and place matters, and it can get confusing sometimes… But I think a “sorry, I was just appreciating ____” occasionally might be worth the net gain.

… And you can phrase something in a way that isn’t misinterpreted. Its situational. I’ve certainly told women a color suits them or complemented a look, hairstyle, what have you… Making certain to filter it in a way that is as complimentary as it can be without toeing that line. Its not that hard and frankly it’s worth seeing someone light up a bit when they get some positive reinforcement.

If I could stop being a socially anxious bitch I would, but I debate in my head for 5 mins and by then the guy has already walked away 😅

Same things with girls honestly, I just struggle. But I feel like I’ve gotten better in college about saying compliments to people.

Never will understand why someone saying something positive about y must immediately mean x is excluded and should be maligned. Its a disgusting tactic typically taken by cults and ner-do-wells who benifit from the rift being widened.

Edit: it’s uplifting to see that people are tolerating that behavior less. I think it’s high time we started building better bonds with people in our communities rather than letting some hatefarm drive more rifts into it.

Let’s normalize not driving rifts into conversations that otherwise didn’t have them… And maybe not turn every conversation into a virtue signaling shitshow.

Women get too many compliments, men get too few. That’s why I steal compliments from women and give them to men. Nice tits, by the way.

A woman told me in '99 that if I put my hair in a bun I’d look like a heavy metal bass player. We’ve been married for 25 years and I will have a bun til I die.

I’m a woman who indiscriminately showers compliments on people everywhere I go. It’s a nervous habit I have, to shift attention from myself to others.

I can also read the room and determine when my compliment-showering begins to annoy people. Because there’s something slightly autistic/ socially awkward about the way I compliment people everywhere all the time.

But at first people do appreciate the compliments because perhaps there’s a shortage of compliments in the world.

I love it. In this world the lows are so low, when someone notices something about you enough to say something nice like that then it becomes something we want to hold on to forever.

The 2020 panel reminded me, my old barber did hair in the alley way being the building next to a dumpster. Something about that was kinda badass.

E: *during COVID. I mean, he’s not just some crazy unhoused gentleman with sheers that I have cut my hair regularly for few bucks…

Exact thing happened to me ~2018. Haven’t changed it since. (Though my growing bald spot may ruin it in the next few years)

The only reason my hairstyle has changed over the years is because of thinning hair.

I used to have such thick, soft hair, people would joke that I was actually growing fur. Everyone loved to scruff my hair and I got compliments all the time.

But now I’m in my 40s and the family balding curse has caught up with me. My hairline is receding, a bald spot is starting to show, and I needed to change up my style to avoid looking 20+ years older than I actually am. Eventually, I’ll just give up and let it do its own thing, but I need to experience my midlife crisis first. 😉

My brother had a similar thing, and decided to just start shaving off everything and embracing the baldness. He’s been rockin’ the bald look ever since quite happily.

I considered that, but I apparently have a really lumpy, scrotum-looking scalp. I do NOT look good bald. So… I gotta put up with what’s left of my hair as long as I can.

In 2001 a girl said to me that my sports jacket “was the kind that girls like”.

It was my dad’s old jacket from 1970’s and it is the only summer jacket I have worn ever since. Luckily the base color is black and the cut is pretty timeless.

EDIT: Put back the missing “my” from the first sentence.

Jokes on you barber, I’ve been bald since I was 25. I couldn’t get a different haircut if I tried.
